Water and the Future Challenges Seminar

Dr. Ali Hassanly,  presented the 17th session weekly seminar On the 29th of March 2018. International world water day was celebrated at UKH this year. In this seminar, Dr. Ali Hassanli explained why water is important globally and in the region, particularly in MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and why we need to celebrate the world water day. Dr. Hassanli emphasized water is an essential for life. It is more than just essential to quench thirst or protect health; water is vital for food security, national security, environment, creating jobs, for economic growth, social, and human development.  World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues. He explained world water day dates back to the 1992 UN Conference on Environment & Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The UNs General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. Since then each year, UN-Water sets a theme for world water day, corresponding to a current or future challenge. Year 2018 Theme was ?Nature for Water?. This year?s theme explores how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century.

  • Water demand and future prospective
  • Current and the future challenges of water
  • A brief review on water status in the region and in Kurdistan
  • A brief review on World Water Day and theme for different years.
