Our human capital is the most valuable asset we have.  The collective sum of all the differences, life experiences, knowledge, inventiveness, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities and talent that our users and staff are and express; collectively represent a significant part of the University’s reputation and achievement.

We embrace and encourage all our user’s differences and characteristics that make them unique.  The Library’s diversity policy is applicable, but not limited to:

  • Meeting the information and research needs of all members of the University and wider community
  • Respectful communication and cooperation between staff and students or other users
  • Responding to any special needs requirements of staff and/or students and other users
  • Teamwork and work/life balance through flexible work schedules managing staff and business needs

All staff and students have a responsibility to:

  • Treat others with dignity and respect at all times
  • Challenge racism, sexism and ageism if and where they find it in the Library
  • Exhibit conduct that reflects inclusion while at work and at University wide functions on or off the campus

Students and staff have a right to pursue a complaint concerning discrimination or victimisation.  All complaints will be treated as disciplinary offences and will be dealt with under the University disciplinary process.

The effectiveness of this policy and associated arrangements will be reviewed annually by the Director of the Library.
